Our impact: 2024

Building on existing efforts In 2023, we integrated our sustainability group into the formal business structure. The group oversee a comprehensive sustainability programme, and have already conducted a comprehensive greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions assessment for our global operations. We are setting near and long-term company-wide emission reductions in line with science-based net- zero targets. These include aligning with 1.5°C and net-zero through the Business Ambition for 1.5°C (the science-based targets that provide companies with a clearly-defined path to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement goals). Staff training: All staff are provided sustainability and carbon footprint training during induction and through regular awareness sessions. Print sustainability: Collaborations with paper suppliers and printers have reduced the carbon emissions of our printed journals. We use paper with one-third the emissions of standard paper. Resources and conferences: We produce resources like the Net Zero Clinical Care Conference with NHS England and The BMJ Climate series, offering tangible actions that clinicians can take to reduce the carbon footprint of healthcare. Carbon reduction initiatives: Ways to reduce carbon are integrated into contract delivery with all our suppliers, supporting our goal of Net Zero by 2040. Sustainable Development Goals: We uphold SDGs 1, 3, 8, and 13 in our operations and publications, aligning our business impact with tackling poverty, improving wellbeing, spreading the benefits of economic growth, and taking climate action. Additionally, by integrating these following practices, we hope to advance sustainability and effectively make a lasting impact on the climate emergency:
