How do you envision your research contributing to the broader field or addressing real-world issues? This was a global emergency of an unprecedented scale and severity and is unlikely to be the last. Our experience and publications, underscore the importance of preparedness and open scientific enquiry to guide policy. We were able to garner the support and collaborative work from a wide range of young researchers. Perhaps in the future there could be more rapid response and funded projects around global health emergencies affecting families and children. What do you see as the benefits of open access publishing compared to traditional publishing models? Knowledge access and dissemination is key to research efforts and the fact that our work found its way to many national policies and response strategies was also related to its ready availability in LMICs. Open access publications were key to information sharing during the pandemic and should be the norm moving forward with mechanisms that enable scientists from LMICs to publish their findings. What advice would you give to other researchers who are considering publishing their work in open access formats for the first time?
